Stand…For Your Battle Has Already Been Fought and Won

Lord Jesus, we thank you for the life you freely gave on our behalf.  We are unworthy, but are grateful for God’s grace, mercy and favor. May today, be a day where all that we do bring your glory and praise. And if we falter, forgive us and continue to perfect us for your glory.  We love you and surrender our hearts, minds and spirit to you.  It is in your name we pray, Amen.

“I see that you are fighting very hard against your enemies.  But I have already fought your battles and provided you the victory in me.” – Jesus

When God promised the Children of Israel that they would possess a land flowing with milk and honey, He also told them that although this land is already occupied, do not to worry, for He would deliver this land to them.

Exodus 33:1b-3a NLT Go up to the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I told them, ‘I will give this land to your descendants.’ 2 And I will send an angel before you to drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. 3 Go up to this land that flows with milk and honey.

Leviticus 20:24 NLT 24 But I have promised you, ‘You will possess their land because I will give it to you as your possession—a land flowing with milk and honey.’ I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from all other people.

Because we are God’s Children and we belong to Christ through our faith in Him, we receive many benefits of our relationship. One being that where ever God has told us to go, He will provide the way.  And any obstacles that we may see in the way, all we have to do is trust in God’s Word and continue to move forward.  For if we would just remember from where we have come, we could see the Hand of God moving in our lives and on our behalf to get us to where He has promised.

Joshua 23:3 NASB  3 And you have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations because of you, for the LORD your God is He who has been fighting for you.

So you may being thinking, that this is all well and good, but you are not where you want to be right now and all that you can see is the enemy blocking your path.  When will God remove this obstacle, this roadblock so that I can receive what He has promised me? What am I to do?

I can only think of the same answer that God gave His Children then and what He is telling us now: Have Faith!

We are not to be so worried about our adversary other than to watch out for his schemes, lies and tricks, that he uses to try to destroy our faith in God.

1 Peter 5:8-9a NLT 8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.

The other thing we are to do is very simple in my opinion and that is to stay in the Word of God.  To rely on the Holy Spirit to teach us and strengthen our faith in the promises of God that are contained in His Word.  Without knowing what God says, we are open to treachery, lies, half-truths and deceit from the world and our enemies.

But God didn’t even leave this to us alone.  Jesus was sent to face our adversary and defeat him with the very Word of God that is available to us.

Luke 4:3-13 NLT 3 Then the devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.” 4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone. 5 Then the devil took him up and revealed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 “I will give you the glory of these kingdoms and authority over them,” the devil said, “because they are mine to give to anyone I please. 7 I will give it all to you if you will worship me.” 8 Jesus replied, “The Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the LORD your God and serve only him.” 9 Then the devil took him to Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! 10 For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect and guard you. 11 And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.” 12 Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the LORD your God.” 13 When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came.

There may be many opportunities to come in our lives where the enemy is allowed to confront us. We should be watching and ready for the attack.  But we no longer have to fight for Christ already did so for us.  We are simply to stand on the Word of God.

Now some may say that we have been given armor to fight.  But is it to fight with or to stand with?

Ephesians 6:10-18 NIV 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people

Yes, I think it is to STAND.

Sometimes, our stress and frustration as Christians comes because we are busy doing things that are already done.  Instead of resting in Christ, having the peace of Christ, trusting and standing, we are busy worrying, fighting, and chasing after.

One last thing to end the week.  Something to ponder.  When you read the following scripture, what does it say to you?

John 19:30b NIV Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Have a wonderful day.
