I Marvel at His Transforming Grace

2nd Corinthians 3:17-18

17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

While I sit here in Jaco, Costa Rica, with my beautiful wife, I am marveling at the beauty of this planet and all the creatures God has made. Tomorrow, December 16th, I’ll reach a milestone of 50 years old. It’s been quite a few years and my body tells the journey of the things acquired: body fat, receding hairline and the ear hair that needs constant trimming. It also has lost some things, chiefly, athletic gifts of youth, a little height, and resilience in terms of healing after injury. Alas, the most important things that remain are the relationships. Primarily my relationship with God, and secondly those he has brought into my life. I continue to marvel at how He continues to love me and bless my efforts in spite of my sins and numerous times I fail to bring Him Glory, and provide me with so many gracious loving people to support me.

Age should bring perspective. Age should make one value the limited time given to us. Today I know, more than ever, that God is amazing, and good, and available to all who sincerely call upon His name in repentance. Too many people are too proud to admit their faults before God and man and take hold of the grace that transforms us into better people. This grace is infused with new life and God transforms us through it, not for others, or simply so we feel more presentable or acceptable to Him. Our God transforms us for so that we become fundamentally sound and equipped vessels for His eternal purposes. Believe me, all of the elect, will delight in their God-given purpose. In this life, we get but small glimpses. I marvel at these and the grace that will continue to transform me and make me fit for His design. I will continue to marvel at the process of grace.
